Pray unceasingly

I cannot stress the importance of prayer in your life. We should prayer unceasingly. Devote some alone time with God. I recommend you start your day off that way. What works for me is this. I go to my basement before anyone else in the house is awake.

First, I make sure that I am awake prior to praying. So what works for me is jumping jacks and walking up and down the stairs repeatedly. For others, a cup of coffee may be all you need.

Then I focus on the quiet and my breathing. I close my eyes and focus on the dark, the quiet, my breathing and the stillness of this moment.

I usually go to my knees and bow my head. I recommend whatever is comfortable for you to spend several minutes in that position. I go to my knees and sometimes also on my face as I think about who I am approaching and the fact that I get to pray to Him.

I repeat the Lord’s Prayer over and over until I feel that I’ve gotten it right. Word by word and line by line.

The first two words, “Our Father who art in Heaven,” are my initial priority. I need to understand exactly who I am praying to. The one who created me. The one who created everything. The King of Kings. The Master of all creation and eternity. The one allowing me to exist, to breathe, and for my heart to beat and on top of all that to come before Him. To approach the One True God. To undertsand I am nothing without Him and that He allows me access to Him.

The next words, “Hallowed be thy Name,” are my next priority. I hallow His Holy Name. The Name above All Names. I focus on the Names I use most often, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ.

Then, “Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven.” His Plan and His Will above all of my human wants and desires.

“Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” I open myself up to total gratitude for my mind, body and soul and all things. This attitude of gratitude and positivity eases me into forgiving everyone, including myself and all things that may bring about negativity in me on any level.

“Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.” I pray for Him to strengthen my faith so that I can resist my temptations. To strengthen me from allowing evil into my being.

“For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory.” I give myself over to God. To Jesus, my Lord and Savior. Because everything is His and no one can take care of His things better than Him. I pray to be more like God and less like me as I care for His creation (my mind, body and soul and all things that interact with me).

Once I have finished the Lord’s Prayer. I dwell on His Name again, Jesus Christ. I focus on who I am speaking with and now I open myself in complete honesty and speak with Him about everything I need to share with Him.

This is how prayer works for me and I hope this has been helpful in some way for you. The rest of my day is spend in more casual prayer with my Personal God. I eat my meals with Him. I share my drinks with Him. I spend the entirety of my day with Him. Usually at night I devote more alone time with Him.

God bless you all!
